With a typical view of what fitness is or what fitness looks like, it might seem odd to go about it in the ways that we do. Context is everything, though, and to be frank, we aren’t interested in “twenty minutes of cardio,” tanning sessions, and “triceps day.” At least, we aren’t nearly as interested in those things as we are interested in work capacity. The real question is, what can you do? How long can you do it? How often can you do it? Can you do it fast? It’s about utility. How useful are you? With this view, fitness can become about access.
“Will you help me load this?”
“Shoot! We’re fenced in, can we get out?”
“Hey! Want to play three hours of trampoline dodgeball this Saturday and not need to take the week of work?”
“A bunch of us signed up for this mud run, want to join?”
“We could save money doing it ourselves. Should we save on labor?”
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes. Life begins to open up with unlimited access and performanced-based, GPP-style training can afford you that.
Forging your physique is one thing, but adding capacities to your tool belt is something completely different. Have you surprised yourself with what access you’ve been granted with your fitness lately?
