So the time has come, rent is due. As much as I truly would love to give CrossFit away for free to anyone, we have to pay the bills. The free month of CrossFit Oxnard is over.
HOWEVER, remember, not only do we ALWAYS have FREE intro classes WED nights at 730pm and SAT at 11am,
ALL MEMBERSHIP FEES, regardless of type, are $25 off until 31JAN2013. This reduced rate will stay with you forever, as long as there is continuous membership!
I have learned a lot in the past month opening CrossFit Oxnard, in the past week of full classes and coaching, and the past weekend as I attended a CrossFit Endurance seminar. Many times we need to go back to basics, and remember why we did something in the first place, and how we got here from there. I’ll use this to transition into a good introductory idealogy for new members, as well as myself…
LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR.
I am sure many of you learned last week that even the simplest movements can become amazingly hard when you are sucking for air and you pushed past the phosphogenic and glycolytic energy stores, and the only thing left in you to finish the WoD was your sheer determination and some old fashioned grunt work. I think back to my triathlon days, and how we used to train. It was typical LSD (long slow distance) fundamentals of 1) Volume, 2) Intensity, and 3) Skill, in that order of precedence.
CrossFit has changed our way of thinking by exposing our weaknesses and showing us that form and efficiency matter, and that although we might be able to bear the pain, its amazing how much more we can endure when our form and technique are better. So now I focus on 1) SKILL, 2) Intensity, and 3) Volume, in THAT order.
I bring this about as I put on my coach hat (yes, it has a feather in it), and remember my early days, when all I wanted to do is be a man and lift heavy things (ok fine, AND eat animals, look at breasts, and pee on things). But as I quickly found out, and I am sure many of you found out last week (cough*cough*WHITTEN*cough*cough), even a 24# KB can end up swinging YOU around.
I will be focusing largely on gauging every single one of you, and we will all learn many things about our capabilities, our bodies, and our capacity. Remember:
START WHERE YOU ARE. USE WHAT YOU HAVE. DO WHAT YOU CAN.
