So Rowing Regatta is here! Time to get on that rower and put in some meters. But what if rowing isn’t your jam? Or maybe your brand new to the box and don’t feel you have the technique down yet? Then let’s spend this time to work on our rowing technique to become more efficient. Here are a few drills you can do to work on while you are rowing.
Arm only rowing: Spend about 60 seconds of rowing with just your arms. Keep a slight laid back position with engaged legs and core just as if you were finishing a stroke. Focus on your back muscles each time you pull on the handle. Don’t roll your shoulders or your back forward.
Arms and body: After 60 seconds start using both your arms and body. Now hinge forward at your hips, leaning your body forward slightly past vertical. Focus on your hips as you bring your arms toward your body. Don’t use your legs yet!
Full stroke: Now add the legs. As you take the full stroke, focus on the entire sequence of driving with your legs, hips, and then pulling with the arms.
