How to make the most of your CrossFit Oxnard experience.
If you want to have the best possible experience you’ll need to do a few things. We coaches can do a lot to help make your journey into fitness a good one but we are only a link in the chain that is your fitness. You’ll have to do some stuff too. Our motto is Be comfortable being Uncomfortable! This is fundamental to CrossFit. Additionally, you’ll need to learn and retain lots of information about what we do.
It takes a minute to learn all the stuff we do. Clean, hang clean, power clean, blah blah blah! It took me at least 3 months to remember what a wallball was don’t even mention double unders. I also asked lots of questions and that brings me to my next point.
Communicate! A means of connection between people or places, in particular. Ask questions, talk to other athletes, email, use the Facebook page but never not get the information you want and need. We try as coaches to touch and communicate to each athlete and we have a big task but this is a two way street. Come to us whether good or bad or for whatever. We can try and help as best we can.
Next up, Effort! We see the sweat the long sighs, anguish, sometimes defeat and relief during and after the WOD. We also see when your heart is not into it. The shifty eyes, the hands on the knees and the trips to the chalk bucket or waterbottle. We don’t care if it’s hard. It’s supposed to be. What we care about is your effort. Did you give 100%? 90%? 75%? Giving in to the the stupid voice in your head that allows you to ease off the gas peddle is what we are trying to battle. That’s what brought some of you here to begin with. We will call you on your shit. Some of us nice some of us not. In the beginning I want
To be that voice in your head
That tells you to “GO!” Don’t stop! Keep going! And after a time it will be your voice.
You will Suffer, we all do in our own way. If we witnessed your efforts we know you have been through hell like the rest of us. When we give all we can we will hurt. It’s hard and not much fun. It’s what creates results. Hardship, pain discomfort all breed change. Make no mistake it doesn’t get easier. When you get better at CrossFit there is always another level to go to. Where can your suffering take you? Regionals? Games? Success at work, or conquering and old fear. This is what hardship brings you.
If you want to broaden your fitness you’ll need to participate. Join as much as you can. We not only provide daily classes we also give seminars, clinics, host and attend competitions. We also have get togethers showing movies or celebrating something or other. We are going to have a Beach Volleyball day coming up. Come out to it. If you come to the box and don’t say hello to anyone, avoid eye contact and be aloof this place is probably not for you. We will challenge you and talk to you. We don’t have to be friends but We will engage you. Establishing friendships is one of the best things that does happens here. Just sayin. Make it a point to introduce yourself to someone you don’t know. Never know who your gonna meet.
This is just some of the ideas I have been pushing around. I can’t fathom why anyone would not fit in here or have some of the best experiences. We want everyone to succeed and be fit. Zombies won’t kill themselves.
