I want to say good luck to all of the athletes that are competing in the Festivus games this weekend. I was a nervous wreck during my first competition so I wanted to give you some advice for the big day.
Duh, you’re gonna hear it a thousand times but it is true. Don’t get caught up in what everyone else is doing on the floor. Control what you can and that is your own performance. This Saturday is about having fun with our Crossfit community, making new friends, getting to know each other a little better and maybe find out something new about yourself
Get some rest
Just like a mom telling her 8 year old they need a goods night rest before school, this is no different. It will be a long day for all the athletes. NO HAPPY HOUR 🙁 A beer/wine may be tempting to calm the nerves but can make it difficult to get quality rest. Try to get 7-8 hours of shut eye for your epic battle of fitness
Don’t change it up
Hopefully you have already been eating fairly “clean” to help with your performance, but don’t think that going paleo at noon on Friday will help you. Keep eating like you have been to avoid your body saying WTF?! If you are low carb, get some simple complex carbs the night before to help your energy levels during the competition.
Speaking of foods…
Don’t forget to eat a good breakfast…actually don’t forget to eat. Yes a meal may not seem appetizing on competition day but don’t think your pre-workout will carry you through the whole day. Make sure to meal prep some foods that will you won’t need to heat up. While there will be some vendors on hand you will want to make sure to have your own snacks/meals on hand.
If all else fails go back to tip 1. Good luck my CFOX fam!
