Coaching at 5AM and making doing the early morning classes isn’t the easiest thing to do. I always say, nobody WANTS to work out at 5AM….they HAVE to. With family, work, and everything else, the only time you have to work out is before Starbucks opens. Here are a few tips to be an early riser or stay on track if you are already rising early
1.Get up at the same time everyday: Don’t sleep in on the weekends. For me my 4 year old wakes me up early on the weekend so this isn’t a problem for me. But staying on your routine on the weekend will make that 5AM rise and grind that much easier.
2.Be smart about napping: Nothing ruins a good nights rest like accidently taking a nap at 6PM. Try to make them 10-15 long and in the middle of the afternoon
3.Ditch your phone: We all know about that blue light our phones give off. Make it a habit to stay off your phone an hour or so before you go to sleep (unless you need to check out what the WOD is)
4.Don’t drink before bed: People think booze will help them fall asleep quicker, truth is the alcohol will interfere with your sleep cycle
5.Relax: Stress is a mo’fo…there are tons of exercises you can do to help you relax. There are breathing techniques, muscle relaxation, and even visualizing exercises…just google it
Give some of these a try if you’re finding yourself tossing and turning at night. Get some rest and I’ll see you at 5AM!
