Why do I like to compete at CrossFit? Competition is a healthy thing. It tests where I am currently at in my fitness life cycle and tells me, on a regular basis, what things I need to improve upon. I like competing because I like the challenge and love to see the different communities that CrossFit has created and where I stack up. I was a baseball player all my life and the team mentality and competition that it instilled in me never went away and this is why I still have to compete for just about everything. It also tests my mental capacity and drive to keep going. This last competition had a 3 mile run and around mile 2, my legs hurt, it was hard to breathe, but I set a marker in my head that if I can make it there I can stop and catch my breathe…and I made it. Once I got there I reassessed my body and said I can keep going and I found another spot and said if I can make it I can stop, and I kept going like this until I realized I was rounding the last corner into the end. Not only did I not want to let my teammate down but I didn’t want to give up on myself. So make a goal, even a small one, meet that goal and then set another goal and then another until, before you know it, you’ve completed what you originally thought may have been impossible.
