I have been doing Crossfit now for almost seven years and one of the things I have started to think about is longevity in the sport. More specifically how am I going to keep performing and doing these movements well into my 60’s and beyond? Well it really comes down to body awareness, mobility and recovery. Having this ongoing foot injury has really been a humbling experience because it’s been one that I haven’t been able to shake off or ignore. At first I tried but then when I realized it wasn’t getting better I started to do a lot of research and started to become aware of what I could be doing to improve my body awareness in order to continue performing at my level of expectation. The point to all this rambling is that it’s important to develop body awareness. It will help us determine where our weaknesses are and where we can improve whether it be just improving our mobility in that area or our overall movement patterns. At the end of the day we are all just trying to improve our longevity not only in this sport but life in general so don’t ignore your body when it speaks to you!
