Recently I competed at the Dynamic Duel with Coach Shawn in the masters division!?! Yes Master’s lol and honestly I was quite alright with being pitted against teams that were around my age group. I have competed in other competitions where I have done the advanced or Rx division and honestly I don’t think I could compete in those divisions in a competitive level anymore. 26 year old Edgar would have jumped at the oppurtunity to compete in that division but 37 year old Edgar knows that there’s nothing to prove other than competing at the level that I am comfortable with and can give it my all. The point to all this rambling is that we all age but that doesnt mean we should stop moving our body or performing at a high level. As we get older we as athletes just need to be more aware of our body and how it reacts to these type of workouts or competitions. Its ok to rest for a few days, if your body is telling you that it needs rest or has an ailment somewhere dont ignore it! Listen to it! I have recently developed plantar fasciitis on my left foot and from the onset I wasnt listening to my body and I am now spending more time in recovery. I have had to modify certain movements but you know what thats ok. In the long run we all just want to be able to move well into our older years and be able to play with our grandchildren one day, so be wise and age with pride!
