So on a normal day of going down the Internet rabbit hole I found a video that talked about how “jacked” can someone naturally be. We have all heard of the BMI (body mass index) that tells us how much fat we have on our body compared to others in our height range. Generally, if you’re heavier you are carrying more fat which is kind of a negative idea because it assumes that we are sedentary and isn’t taking into account muscle mass. So a different calculator called the FFMI (fat free mass index) takes that muscle mass into account. Just because you’re heavier doesn’t mean you are not as healthy.
This to me seems more appropriate for us as CrossFitters and lifters because we aren’t sedentary and are actually trying to put on muscle. Now they say the average person with no lifting experience is roughly around 18.9 FFMI and an individual who is a trained lifter, (I’ll just put myself in this category for now…haha) has an FFMI of 22.3. I went to the calculator they had online and sure enough with a rough estimate of my body fat percentage my FFMI was around 22.6. This calculator is, in my opinion, a little more accurate in it’s attempt to take different body types into account and also people who actually lift. This take a negative health indicator, like the BMI and put more of a positive look on it. Check it out!!
