I’m a wife, mother, teacher, and office supply addict.
Occupation: High School English teacher at Saint Bonaventure High School.
When I’m not crossfitting, I’m playing legos, cooking dinner, writing for teacher blogs, and desperately trying to catch up on sleep!
How You Found CrossFit and/or Why You CrossFit:
My cousin Jackie owns a box in Massachusetts (Old Colony Crossfit) and she has always been a huge inspiration for me, so when my other cousin Erin suggested that we check out CrossFit Oxnard last summer, I took the plunge!
I had experience as a water polo player, triathlete, and half marathon runner, but my post baby fitness left a lot to be desired. CrossFit was perfect because it was a fun and fit into my schedule. I always feel like I learn a lot of technique and get a good workout in before my boys are even out of bed in the morning. I love my 5am peeps!
Favorite Workout(s) and Why:
I like rowing workouts even though the sprints make me feel like I’m going to pass out!
Favorite Movement(s) and Why:
Least Favorite Workout(s) and Why:
I’m not a fan of workouts with sprint runs. Ugh.
Least Favorite Movement(s) and Why:
A year later and I’m still struggling with my squat, which frustrates me to no end. Luckily, Shawn has a million and one pieces of advice, which I am trying to get through my thick skull!
I don’t know if it is a super power, but I show up. I’m not the fastest or the most mobile or the strongest, but I show up every week and make progress tiny bits at a time.
Words of Advice For New CrossFitters:
You may think that you don’t have time or that you are not in good enough shape to start. As a thirty-something, working parent, I’m the poster girl for too busy and not athletic enough. CrossFit Oxnard offers a range of class times and the coaches are always willing to help us scale workouts. You will not be alone. Come workout with me at 5am!
I just wanted to send a shout out to Joe, Shawn, Jeff, and Michelle who have been amazing coaches for the last year. You make me better and you make it fun! Thank you!
