MICHELE SCATES – The Definition of Dedication
I was born in RAF England, my dad was in the Air Force. I got to go to Germany and Japan as a kid. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Marketing. I worked at kinko’s for six years until 2004 when I enlisted in the Navy. I have been stationed in Virginia, Oklahoma City, Tacoma, Washington and Port Hueneme. I have been to Afghanistan and Iraq in my 13 year career.
Occupation: In the Navy!

How You Found CrossFit and/or Why You CrossFit:
I found Crossfit when I was in Afghanistan watching a navy seal doing it, so I thought I would give it a try. I do Crossfit because it is the only training I have done that helps me keep my weight in control and I enjoy the mental therapy. Plus the people are RAD.
Favorite Workout(s) and Why:
I like all hero WoD’s because of what they represent. 31 Heroes is a favorite.
Favorite Movement(s) and Why:
Cleans because they feel natural to me.
Least Favorite Workout(s) and Why:
The Snatch is my least favorite because I struggle with being patient with it.
Least Favorite Movement(s) and Why:
Anything with wallballs!
Words of Advice For New CrossFitters:
Scale until you get comfortable with the movement!

I love CrossFit Oxnard, such a awesome group of people to get workout with and call friends. It’s really the only reason I like the area. =\
